A barometer is an instrument that is used to measure atmospheric pressure. It can measure the pressure exerted by the atmosphere by using water, air, or mercury. The name is derived from the Greek words - "baros" meaning weight (a misnomer really), and "metron" meaning to measure. A barometer measures the "weight" or rather the pressure of the atmosphere. |
